If you’re having problems with your hair like greasiness, static, split ends, or limpness, the cause could actually be your hairbrush!

“What”, you say?

It’s true! Sometimes the most confounding hair problem has the simplest solution. (Love that, don’t you?)

Here are the 7 most common culprits of unruly hair:

Brushing from the root to the tip. This pulls the hair out of the follicle snapping it. Instead, start at the bottom and comb or brush up, taking out tangles as you go. The key is smaller sections.

Brushing hair when wet. Oh, this is a BIG no-no! Your hair is filled with moisture, which causes them to stretch and makes the strands weaker. Let your hair air dry a bit before detangling.

Using a paddlebrush to detangle. Wet or dry, please do NOT use a paddle to detangle your hair; it’s just too harsh. Apply a detangling product first then use a wide-tooth comb.

Brushing your hair too much. Brushing your hair 100 strokes each night will do you more harm than good. Over brushing will cause breakage. Just eliminate the knots and you’re done!

Using the wrong brush. Go for a natural boar bristle brush instead of synthetic. It’s much gentler on your hair and it distributes your hair’s natural oils through the mid-lengths and ends of your hair.

Using dirty brushes. All that product buildup is coating your brush, not to mention the natural oils from your hair. That’s why hairbrushes should be washed once a week Need motivation? How about this: Do you really want to keep recycling oil and residue from weeks ago onto your clean hair?

Causing static with your brush. Over brushing can cause static from the friction. Dry hair can also be more static-y. Either spritz hairspray on your brush or rub a few drops of hair oil between your hands and then over your hair.
